Process Streamlining is

a way to point out the less-than-ideal pieces of your business processes [Phase 1],

then work to improve them [Phase 2]

accomplished by applying methods similar to ISO 9000 Certification [Phases 1 & 2]

A Description of the 'Streamlining' Vision:

To accomplish ‘streamlining’, the consultant delivers a variety of services 

        to upper management, who receive relevant updates

                on flows, findings, status, recommendations, etc.

                            so they can be aware of and stay on top of discoveries,

                                        in order to make decisions on directing changes

                                                        or implementing improvements

                                                                    to achieve desired strategic goals.

The Consultant’s Role

Here's what you can expect from me as streamlining works in your company:

  1. Review your company goals, statistics, history

  1. Sit with the individual managers to document how they currently accomplish each piece, or process, of your business

  1. Create flow diagrams from their input

  1. Confer with workers to include details of procedures

  1. Once flow diagrams are ready to review, meet again with relevant managers to document phase 1, the ‘Now Process’

  1. Analyze the phase 1 flow diagrams/ procedures to see where there is wasted time/ effort/ money, or other suggested changes

  1. Conduct strategic planning sessions with your upper management to determine goals and priorities

  1. Present recommendations, and discuss with management to determine what phase 2, the ‘New Process’ will look like

  1. Create phase 2 flow diagrams based on latest inputs, and any additional documentation required to ensure that the phase 2 flow diagrams will run smoothly

    eg. new forms, posters, notices, etc.

  1. Assist management to implement phase 2 by any of the following:

employee training

application of quality tracking / management techniques

management review sessions

updates to phase 2 flow diagrams, as determined

  1. [optional] Follow through using SPC techniques to determine that the ‘New Process’ is indeed accomplishing your strategic goals:

saving you money or time,

improving your customer or supplier relationships, etc.

The Client’s Role  

  1. Participate in strategic planning sessions that direct the outcome

  2. Stay connected during the streamlining to approve or disapprove throughout the effort

  3. Be available to offer direction and decision making, as needed

  4. Be enthusiastic, and less stressed, as implemented changes show progress toward your strategic goals; for example: 

smoother processes,

improved customer satisfaction,

uplifted employee attitudes and business atmosphere,
